Voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations are invited to apply for a new partnership opportunity from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, supporting work on mental health inpatient wards in Southwark and Lambeth.

This programme offers VCSE organisations the chance to deliver meaningful, culturally relevant activities on wards, helping to improve wellbeing and support people’s recovery journeys. Activities may include creative arts, physical activity, mindfulness, and other community-led approaches that bring connection and structure to evenings and weekends.

What’s on offer

  • £12,250 funding per ward
  • Opportunity to work across up to three wards
  • A 12-month programme delivering regular group activities
  • Direct collaboration with NHS staff and service users

The initiative aims to create more therapeutic ward environments while also supporting smoother transitions from inpatient care back into community life. A key requirement is that activities offered on the ward can also be accessed in the community after discharge.

Who should apply?

This opportunity is open to grassroots VCSE organisations already delivering community-based activities. Applications are particularly encouraged from organisations that can provide culturally appropriate support reflecting the diversity of local communities.

Why this matters

This partnership is part of a wider shift towards stronger collaboration between the NHS and the VCSE sector - recognising the vital role community organisations play in improving mental health outcomes and reducing isolation.
