Research Engagement Network

Building a fairer, community‑led research system in south east London

The Research Engagement Network (REN) is part of a national NHS England programme focused on embedding research more effectively across the health and care system - and ensuring it works for everyone.

London Neighbourhood Data Explorer

Unlocking neighbourhood data for VCSE organisations

Access to meaningful data is essential if VCSE organisations are to shape services, influence decisions and address health inequalities. Developed by PPL in partnership with London's health and care system, the London Neighbourhood Explorer provides free access to neighbourhood-level data for the first time.

Capacity-building and enhanced grants programme

Strengthening the hyper-local VCSE ecosystem at the heart of neighbourhood health

Learn how funding from the SEL Integrated Care Board (ICB) is supporting grassroots VCSE organisations to grow, sustain and lead community‑led prevention and health creation.

Access to NHS spaces

Opening doors for VCSE organisations

We have been working in partnership with SEL ICB to make better use of NHS buildings as spaces that benefit local people. Our aim is to help micro, grassroots and by-and-for VCSE organisations access these spaces for free to deliver activities and support in the heart of their communities. By making better use of NHS estates, we can ensure local organisations have the room they need to provide vital, culturally responsive services and help tackle health inequalities across south east London.

Strategic VCSE leadership in NHS Trusts

VCSE voices shaping NHS systems from within

We’re embedding senior VCSE leaders within south east London NHS trusts, bringing community insight into the heart of organisational decision-making, strategy development, and service design - strengthening collaboration between the NHS and the VCSE sector and supporting more equitable, community-informed health outcomes.

Mapping our VCSE sector

in partnership with south east London's Councils for Voluntary Services (CVS)

This partnership project, led by Lewisham Local and involving all six south east London Councils for Voluntary Services (CVSs), provides a detailed analysis of the Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector across the region. The report maps current service provision, networks, and funding sustainability in alignment with the South East London Integrated Care System’s (ICS) five strategic priorities: prevention and early intervention, early years, children and young people's mental health, adult mental health, and primary care for those with long-term conditions. It highlights areas for growth, collaboration, and the vital role of grassroots organisations in supporting underserved and marginalised communities.

Creative health

Arts and health: a new approach to wellbeing

We're proud to be part of the Creative Health Impact Framework collaborative, launched by the National Centre for Creative Health and NHS England. This initiative aims to evaluate and enhance the role of creativity in improving health and wellbeing. By ensuring the voices of voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations are central, we strive to embed creative approaches that promote equitable, sustainable health solutions for south east London’s diverse communities.

Volunteering for health

Empowering volunteers, enriching lives

We're proud to be part of a collaborative effort uniting a diverse range of organisations across south east London for the Volunteering for Health programme. This groundbreaking £10 million initiative, delivered in partnership by NHS England, NHS Charities Together, and CW+, aims to harness the power of volunteers to enhance health and social care services. By working together, we are committed to breaking down barriers, testing innovative models, and sharing best practices to maximise the impact of volunteering for the benefit of our communities.

Overprescribing medication

Engaging communities, improving Health

We’re excited to collaborate with community pharmacies to raise awareness about Structured Medication Reviews (SMRs) and reduce medicine waste. This initiative will empower patients to engage in shared decision-making with clinicians, promoting safe deprescribing and cutting unnecessary waste. Focused on underserved communities, this work will address those most in need and build on insights from patient engagement across south east London.
