The South East London Palliative and End of Life Care (PEoLC) Programme is seeking a VCSE organisation – or consortium of organisations – to lead engagement with patients, carers and bereaved families across south east London.

Why this matters

Understanding the lived experiences of people accessing palliative and end of life care is essential to improving services, reducing inequalities, and ensuring care reflects the needs of our diverse communities. The PEoLC Programme is particularly keen to work with the voluntary and community sector because of its ability to reach marginalised and underrepresented groups whose voices are often unheard.

What the project involves

The successful organisation will design and deliver a programme of engagement with:

  • People approaching the end of life
  • Carers supporting someone approaching the end of life
  • Bereaved family members and relatives

Engagement activities may include focus groups, one-to-one interviews and community-based approaches, with an emphasis on accessibility, cultural competence and inclusion. The project will explore what is working well, where people experience challenges or barriers, and identify priorities for future service improvement.

The work will culminate in a final report (or alternative format such as a podcast or video with transcript) highlighting key themes, lived experiences, case studies and recommendations for system-wide improvement.

Funding available

A maximum funding envelope of £20,000 is available for this work.

Who should apply?

The opportunity is open to organisations with experience of:

  • Engaging patients, carers and bereaved individuals
  • Working with diverse and underserved communities
  • Delivering qualitative research and insight gathering
  • Managing sensitive conversations with compassion and professionalism

Consortium bids are welcomed and may be particularly beneficial where partners can demonstrate strong reach into communities experiencing health inequalities.

Indicative timeline

  • EOI submission deadline: 5pm Monday 20th July
  • Provider selection: Late July 2026
  • Engagement activity: September–October 2026
  • Final report: January 2027
